Although the Aurora forecast for tonight was not very promising, after 5 days of bad weather, I decided that with tonight's clear sky it was worth giving it a try! The Aurora didn't make us wait that long, as it was already visible at 6:15 PM local time, before peaking around 7:30 PM with a bright but low above the northern horizon display (1st picture). Then everything faded, until the Bz dipped again south a few hours later. Sadly, no massive display of Aurora followed. A faint glow remained visible for hours, getting brighter occasionally and with a few shapes moving. The pictures 2 through 4 are very long exposures at 6400 ISO. They show a lot of the night sky but mind that the colours of the Aurora were not visible to the naked eye! With -30°C / -22°F, this was a cold but pleasant night to be outside, for being the first really cold night for the 3 weeks that I have been up north so far this winter.
