Details:
As the late afternoon Sun was descending behind a bank of cumulus cloud a Sun Dog (parhelion) appeared above the opposite end 22 degrees to the north (third image). Just after doing so the portion of cloud beneath it became bird-shaped giving the impression that the Sun Dog was perched on one of its wings (mosaic). Another sunlit portion of cumulus cloud then started to rise in front of it to provide the spectacular lead photograph. While this was happening a large creature shaped cumulus cloud developed and towered over the neighbouring Christmas Pass horizon (final image). Camera: Hand-held Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ60 in sunset mode.
