What a crazy night in Finnish Lapland! Because of temperatures around freezing point or even above (very unusual at this time of year) and strong winds, chasing the aurora was not an option tonight. Instead, I decided to wait for possible openings at our fireplace here on the bank of the Teno river in Utsjoki. We saw some faint auroras and lots and lots of clouds for the first hours of the night. Then a snow storm hit us with some of the biggest snow flakes I had ever seen. And finally, clear sky. In 2 minutes, the sky exploded in greens and some of the most intense and fast moving pink that I have ever seen in 8 years of Aurora photography! This was also another sign that a brilliant Aurora show can come and go in an instant. If you are not ready for it, you might very well miss it! Let the future spaceweather traveller be warned about it. With the news that a potent solar wind was coming in our direction, there was no way to sit this evening out and not keep my eyes on the sky, and what a good decision this was! Then the clouds rolled in again for another massive snow shower.
