Details:
Very hot sunshine on Wednesday afternoon caused a build-up of some spectacular cumulus clouds in the vicinity of Mutare. As these grew in height, uprising moisture condensed on top of some to form tiny ice crystals which refracted sunlight to produce characteristic shining pileus caps. These only persisted for a few minutes with early ones remaining colorless and later ones developing rainbow colours as the Sun descended in the sky. At just after 5 pm a beautiful bright double layered iridescent cloud suddenly appeared above a small cumulus formation. The two layers gradually merged and for about ten minutes produced a vivid display of all the colors of a rainbow before dispersing. Camera: Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ60 in sunset mode.
