Details:
A very cool STEVE (Strong Thermal Emission Velocity Enhancement) lit up the sky over Montana tonight, underneath the handle of the Big Dipper. I was able to get some photos despite the hazy clouds, and the thicker clouds below it hiding the main aurora display. I helped discover/bring attention to this atmospheric phenomenon, along with many other photographers in Canada, so that was cool to see again in the sky. STEVE's can take several different forms, and this one was beautiful. My first sighting was in 2013. I believe I even caught a little bit of a Red Sprite in the far lower right hand corner next to the main display, as we did have lightning come through too.
