Details:
This is an old picture from August 2008 that shows a deeply reddish-orange color along the horizon after sunset due to atmospheric dust from the Kasatochi eruption. It was taken at 8:24 pm EDT (38 minutes after sunset) with a Canon 40D digital SLR camera on a fixed tripod and a Sigma 18-50 mm f/2.8 lens set to 50 mm. It was exposed 0.6 sec at f/8, ISO 400, automatic white balance. Little processing was applied. Venus is also visible just above the reddish band, about a third of the way from the left. There’s a wind sock above the tree on the right.
