Details:
A classic moderately bright volcanic twilight, on July 28 2019. The brightest of a series over several days days. Sunset was about 7:49. The pair of photos show the illumination leaving the contrail/cirrus patches and remaining on the much higher layer, which turned from yellow orange to pink between about 8:05 and 8:15 PM PST.
The pair taken in about that interval shows the contrails and cirrus scraps catching the last sunlight, then the second shows them dark against the brightly lit stratospheric material.
The zoomed in view has been moderately processed to bring put the detail in the suspended high layer catching the light. An isolated cloud hundreds of miles away casts its shadow on the layer from beneath.
Raikoke Volcano in Russia is the likely source based on some reports I have seen.
