From the 22nd floor of an apartment in La Serena/Coquimbo, Chile, we overlooked the sea and the beach where thousands of people gathered, the location where the shadow would first meet mainland.
Halfway between first and second contact it got colder and colder.The birds eye view gave a good look at the ground, the yellowish colour of the light on the white buildings, the reflection of the sun on the sea. At totality the oval shape of the moon shadow in the sky was clearly visible. I could spot Venus and Betelgeuse. From our perspective the shadow moved from left to right until the first rays of sunlight came through. The reflection on the sea was back at in instant.
From our location the totality lasted for little over two minutes.
