Details:
Every winter around the June Solstice the setting Sun as viewed from my vantage point in Murambi appears to ‘roll’ down an adjacent hillside before disappearing below the foot of an unusual weather beaten Musasa Tree at the bottom of the slope. In the accompanying x 50 speed animation the Sun has been kept center frame so that it remains stationary and the horizon moves relative it with dramatic effect. The illusion that the Sun is rolling down the slope is accentuated because its gradient is similar to the angle of descent of the Sun. On this occasion it took 6 minutes to set which is three times as long as it would if the horizon had been horizontal. In the last image taken on 15th June from a different vantage point, the 'Solstice' Tree is nicely framed by the setting Sun. Camera: Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ60 in sunset mode mainly with improvised solar filter.
