While doing some maintenance on the SUV this evening, I kept my eye on NLCs since we've seen them five times already in Washington State - THIS YEAR ALONE!!! While I was finishing up, I noticed those familiar electric-blue tendrils lighting the horizon to the north-northwest and immediately threw the SUV into high gear to a local beach park at the lake nearby where I live. Upon arrival, I set up my camera and begin firing off exposure after exposure. This was quite a spectacular treat! Captured with a Nikon D5500, f/6.3 1.5 seconds, at ISO640. An 18mm lens was used. In all, more than two dozen frames were captured (and will be used for a brief timelapse. :) ) This is the FIFTH documented sighting in Washington State in a single NLC season, and this is unheard of in over a decade of observing NLCs in the Pacific Northwest!
