Seeing Ian Carstairs' image from 2009 July sent me to the archives. Here are a couple showing noctilucent cloud visibility at the time even in a less rural location. 2009 July 03/04, Pentax *1stD, f=35mm, ISO 200, f/16, 30s at 22h03 & 15s at 02h18 UT. This was the first time I had observed noctilucent clouds and they were striking and unmistaable. A week later I saw another display whilst sitting outside on a warm evening. I wrote notes: "At first clouds and vapour trails still lit up by the Sun. Watched, serendipitously, ISS go over preceded by fainter but still easily visible supply ship. Lovely scent of tobacco plants. Then over a few minutes the clouds and trails went dark and those overhead started to take on the familiar nighttime light-polluted tint. Looked across to the twilight arc and wondered if eyes deceiving me - seemed to be a linear pattern in the sky. Got camera and it was real!" 2009 July 12 Pentax *1stD, f=35mm, ISO 200, f/16, 10s at 21h59 UT. I haven't seen any since but check on suitable nights.

Hello Robert

I have picked them up a number of times in the last couple of years, but nothing compared with 2009 and much lower near the horizon. You are just a bit further south than us, but only by c.30kms/20 miles

Best IanC
