Details:
The Kp Index was low, only 1 or 2. with the effects of the recent coronal hole having passed. We weren't expecting much this night, March 3, and the night started with just a quiet diffuse arc across the north. Our viewing point was in the Norwegian Sea crossing from the Lofoten Islands to the mainland coast, from Stamsund to Bodø, just north of the Arctic Circle. The aurora appeared as an arc high across the north. But at local midnight a minor sub-storm hit and the aurora lit up with obvious colours and rapid motion, including fringes of nitrogen pinks. However, the show lasted for only a few minutes. It soon subsided to diffuse patchy glows across the sky, the typical post-storm breakup.
