Details:
Now in my second season guiding for Lights Over Lapland in Abisko, I've seen some unusual atmospheric illusions. Whilst out on a night off this evening I was waiting patiently for the aurora to appear after a southerly BZ of -7 had presented itself. As a huge faint arc of aurora moved further and further south a single light pillar caught my eye coming from Abisko village. A temperature inversion, and a gathering cloud of ice crystals descended over Abisko, more and more light pillars appeared with temperatures lower than -25. I switched my attention to photographing the pillars as they grew brighter and taller. The aurora slowly moved further south allowing me to capture it above the impressive aggregation of light pillars.
