Details:
Went out early, on the night of January 23rd with hope to catch the first storm of the 2019 stating that the sky was incredible clear, something we did not see here in Alberta for a while when a geomagnetic storm is blowing. Drove away from city lights or any source of light pollution, choose a location, set up the cameras and I started checking the solar wind data and alternatively the sky as well. The geomagnetic unrest was briefly reaching a Kp of 4 for a little bit and most of the night remained around Kp 3. I knew when I left home that I would fight two elements, the frigid cold of the artic front which was engulfing the Alberta prairies and also the almost full moon which was blowing out the aurora. The first one did not disappoint me, the temperature went as down as -27C and with a wind-chill of -35C, remained steady for all the night, so a lots of movement was involved….. Despite the full moon and the data which wasn’t great I did manage to get some shots, successfully having them in the same frame and a generic name of those frames can be Aurora versus Moon.
