Carrington Rotation 2212 Plage Report
Five plages were visible during this rotation, and all were of Cycle 24 configuration, four in the northern hemisphere and one just south of the equator. Plages were absent on nine of the days. The first plage, the spotless remnant of AR 2731, was present on the first day of the rotation and was last visible on 12/22/18. The next plage rotated into view on 12/24/2018; old and diffuse, it gradually faded into the chromospheric network. On 12/30/18 a plage appeared in the central northern hemisphere that developed spots on 1/1/19 to become AR 2732. It persisted to rotate out of view on 1/6/19. A small plage appeared in the NW quadrant on 12/31/18 but was gone by the next day. The last plage of the cycle appeared around 1/5/19, old and diffuse, and it gradually disappeared into the chromospheric network after about four days. There were no plages the last eight days of the rotation.
Further data and source credits noted at bottom of images.
Note: Magnetograms of active regions with visible spots are labeled with respective AR numbers. Magnetograms of plages without spots are marked āpā to designate plages without spots, followed by AR numbers, if any, followed by solar cycle magnetic configuration.
