Details:
Cloudy skies cleared before first contact and remained clear for the entire eclipse, shot from a hill above the eastern shore of the Novosibirsk Reservoir (informally called the Ob Sea). During the eclipse the moon blocked the sun's brilliant disk, allowing its fainter outer atmosphere--the corona--to shine forth, and 360-degree "sunset" colors to appear along the horizon. Venus and Mercury are visible to the sun's left. Below, eclipse chasers view and photograph the sky show.
Photo details: Shot at 10:45:05 UT with a Canon EOS 20D, 14mm f/2.8L lens, ISO 200, 0.5 seconds exposure at f/5.6.
