Details:
Comet 46P/Wirtanen is 9.1 million miles from Earth in this gif moving at 2.5 degrees per day across Earths sky. These images are only about 1/4 by 1/4 degree so the comet coma extends well beyond the field of view of these images. The gif images simply show the region around the comet nucleus and how fast the comet is moving across Earths sky. Due to the fast movement of the comet the images are limited to 30 seconds so that the comet does not appear as a streak.
