Details:
Comet 46P a few hours before perihelion showing not only the large coma but also a faint tail. The coma is about 1.2 degrees wide (thus, the coma diameter is more than twice the width of the moon) and the tail is about 1.1 degree long. The coma is seen, obviously, very large; perhaps the largest of any comet I have observed over the years. With such a large coma, visually, through binoculars, the comet looked very impressive.
