Details:
>> 46P/Wirtanen's Nucleus <<
A stacked image of 46P/Wirtanen captured on the 10th, but this time stacking was carried out on just the comet's Coma and Nucleus, leaving the stars to trail. When stacking this way all the focus is put towards the comet and it can actually reveal more detail, like the very faint tail at about the 10 o clock position. I have a feeling this coma is now well over one degree in diameter, but will need to check that out..
Also notice the stars are faded in the image this is due to thin passing cloud / bad transparency, this really takes away from the details been captured.
During closest approach on the 15th the comet will have climbed quite a bit since I captured this, an additional 17 degrees in altitude this should bring it into clearer more reliable patch of sky from Astrophotography and visual viewing too. Peak height should be around 55 degrees on this night and higher the following night.
Also included is a image of the comet and stars stacked.
