Tonight is the night on the 15th day of the 8th month of the old Japanese lunisolar calendar - so called Chushu-no-Meigetsu, literally, a famous moon of the middle autumn.
It is a mid-autumn festival to admire the (almost) full moon in autumn, corresponding to the Harvest Moon.
The accurate full moon will occur on Sep. 25 (16th day of 8th month) this year, however, traditionally the moon rising on the 15th day has been admired as full moon.
