Details:
While walking the Tower Trail yesterday at Wyoming’s Devil’s Tower National Monument, my wife Linda and I found ourselves swept up in a late afternoon squall. As the rain blew eastward and the Sun came out brightly, I knew that a rainbow was in the offing. I climbed atop a large chunk of a collapsed tower column and there it was – a beautiful double rainbow with shimmering supernumery arcs. The storm receded quickly and the rainbow show, which had attracted quite a crowd, faded after only a couple of minutes and was gone. It was a classic example of right place, right time, right equipment. The attached image is a 1/800 second exposure taken with a Nikon D700 digital camera at ISO 800 and a 38mm Nikkor lens at f14. It was taken at 5:34pm MDT on Sept 20, 2018.
