I am back above the Arctic Circle! Last night, I landed in Ivalo, Finnish Lapland, around 11 PM local time. I picked up my luggage and rental car knowing that something nice was developing in the sky, and I hurried to the nearest place I knew near the lake Ukonjärvi. As soon as I got there, a beautiful and bright Aurora arc appeared above the northern horizon, perfectly reflecting in the still water of the lake.
From airplane to Aurora viewing site: less than 45 minutes!
After this, I moved around a little bit to some of my favourite spots, which I was discovering for the first time outside of the frozen and cold winter season.
Despite quite low forecast, slow solar wind speed, a couple of short moments with negative Bz made this happen.
A very successful first night in the Arctic!
