Details:
On 14 August the three day old crescent Moon had moved fairly close to Venus. The pair were observed setting in the sunset twilight sky to the west of Mutare while fires burnt on some of the mountains producing billows of smoke along the horizon (mosaic). By the time darkness fell the Moon was low in the sky and its color had changed to bright orange. While taking some close-up videos of it descending I was lucky to capture it disappearing behind some trees on the darkened summit of Murahwa Mountain. The x3 speed time-lapse animation was prepared from 200 frames extracted from a 1 minute video. These had to be sharpened and contrast enhanced to overcome the obscuring effect of smoke haze. Camera: Tripod mounted Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ60 in night scene mode with up to x90 optical plus digital zoom.
