Details:
As before, Mars is challenging from the UK at this apparition and seeing was pretty poor last night. The maximum elevation at the moment is around 11 degrees. However, with the dust storm waning, some contrast stretching will reveal some surface features. At the low elevation, an atmospheric dispersion corrector (ADC) is almost obligatory. This time I tried a X3 barlow. The ADC is clearly doing its stuff, but it won’t compensate for poor seeing! The Hellas basin was obvious visually – easy to mistake for the S. polar cap!- and Syrtis Major was just about in view. This image was taken with an 8 SCT + ADC + X3 barlow + a Phil Dyer (PD) camera. The best 500 frames of a 2000 frame AVI was used, stacked with Autostakkert, sharpened with Registax 6 and processed with GIMP 2.10.
