Lunar Near Miss With Aldebaran
This morning it was an early rise to try and catch the near grazing of the waning crescent Moon and Taurus' brightest star (Aldebaran) Alpha Tauri. As luck would have it, the clouds along the eastern horizon were a big problem. Between 3:45 and 5:10 a.m. EDT I only got glimpses of the event. From my location, the nearest these two objects came were around 4:40 a.m.
It was a an exciting and beautiful event to watch, though intermittently in my case. Well worth the wait.
I used a tripod mounted Canon 6D camera and Canon 100-400mm lense set at 400mm; ISO 2,000, f/5.6, exp. 1 to 1/4 sec.
