Well the weird wispy rainbow appeared directly below the sun approx 22 deg, photo is looking west and sun was almost directly above. Faded in minutes. It is unlike any sundog I have ever seen. What caused this ?

The rainbow-like sundog in the image is also an ice crystal halo effect, but not at the common 22degrees from the sun, but below the sun at about 46degrees from it. It is the opposite phenomenon of the better known circumzenithal arc which can be seen overhead when the sun is at low elevation. The so-called circumhorizontal arc in your photograph appears at sun elevations of at least 58degrees.
