Details:
In these images Comet C/2018 L2 ATLAS is only 8 degrees above the southern horizon. The comet is a relatively bright magnitude 16 but smoky skies at this low altitude do not make for very impressive images of the comet from Denver. C/2018 L2 will make its close approach to the Earth on June 17 when it will be 181 million miles from Earth. The comet does not reach perihelion until December 2 when it will be about 160 million miles from the Sun and at about an expected peak magnitude of 14. As usual, select the larger image to get a better resolution image.
