STEVE, the strange auroral arc, put in quite the appearance on Sunday night, with a fine show over southern Alberta lasting about an hour, Steve's usual performance time. He appeared as a faint arc to the east then formed a bright arc across the sky, with his usual pink and white colour.
At times slowly moving green "picket-fence" fingers appeared.
While Steve performed, a fairly inactive and quiet aurora was to the north. But the main aurora had been very active earlier and to the east, as the Explore.org webcam at the Churchill Northern Studies Centre in Churchill, Manitoba showed a very active, fast-moving and bright display in the twilight sky.
These images are two fish-eye views of the entire sky, showing Steve competing with clouds, and closeups of Steve over my house, in views looking northwest.
I also shot real-time 4K video of Steve, perhaps his first capture on video. It shows fine structures in the pink and white arc moving east to west.
