Details:
With a chartered Boeing 787 Dreamliner jet plane, the project “Flight to the Lights 2” succeeded for the second time to fly around in the southern aurora oval for hours.
It was an opportunity to observe Aurora Australis very close from high altitude and interesting to see the rapid movements of the aurora.
Aurora was witnessed soon after the departure from Christchurch airport. The activity increased after the moon had set and aurora was observed until the plane headed back towards New Zealand's airport.
The “Flight to the Lights” is a project initiated from local aurora hunter’s dream to get closer to the Aurora Australis since theres is no easily accessible land further than the south of New Zealand where they live.
