On March 18, 2018 at 6:06 PM EDT was my sunset and I initially saw the forming of the crescent moon growing larger and larger as darkness increased. At 7:45PM I took the attached photo from inside my living room window looking outside to the west where you can see the crescent moon and Mercury. Venus is not clearly visible probably blocked by trees.

You have sunset in Standard Time, it would have been about 7:06 pm EDT. Also, the bright planet in your image is probably Venus. Mercury would have been about the same spacing from Venus as Venus was from the Moon, along the same line to the upper right. Perhaps Mercury is hidden by the thick upper wire, assuming it wasn’t too dim to appear at all. And even if the bright dot was Mercury, there are no trees blocking the space between it and the Moon where Venus would have been on March 18.
