"Zenith" 🌀
Standing directly below the incoming flow of charged particles from our star, the Aurora Borealis at the zenith is a psychedelic managerie of violet and green against the inky black backdrop of space.
Even though the sun is quiet, the solar wind has created cracks in Earth’s magnetic field, allowing charged particles to flow in. The Aurora Borealis peaks around the spring and fall equinoxes, with spring being more pronounced, which has recently been explained as the Russell-McPherron effect.
Captured in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada on March 15, 2018. Nikon D810A, Nikon 14-24mm lens, ISO 3200, f/2.8, 10 second exposures.
