Details:
Here's a Kp2 level aurora from Feb 8, 2018 from Churchill, Manitoba, shot through thin clouds, from a storm beginning to move in. This is at latitude 58° North, but at this longitude the auroral oval dips farther south than anywhere else in the world, due to the North Magnetic Pole being due north of here.
Though a blizzard moved in overnight, the sky was clear enough at the start of the evening for some views and photos, pleasing our first aurora tour group of the year at the Churchill Northern Studies Centre. Here under the auroral oval as long as skies are clear, the Northern Lights are almost routine and guaranteed! And in displays that would rank as rare "wow" events farther south.
