Details:

A few days from the largest supermoon of 2017. Mars is shown with an apparent diameter of 4.3 arc-seconds but will increase 5 fold to 24+ arc-seconds in early August. Images taken with an Explore Scientific ED80 with a 2x barlow and Nikon D3100 DSLR.

Hi Charles, I love photographing the Moon also. Is the diameter you give on the second photo topocentric or geocentric?

Hi David;

I obtained the apparent diameters of the Moon and Mars from the
program Stellarium and posted both images side by side for comparison. Mars will appear more than 5x larger in early August 2018. Hope this answers your question.
