Details:
A very large solar prominence on the northeast quadrant of the Sun has been putting on quite a nice show for the last several days for solar observers with Halpha telescopes. I captured this image yesterday (10/19). We had relatively clear skies, but with some pesky high cirrus clouds that made imaging a real challenge. I hesitated to post this image, but decided to do so anyway mainly because it shows the size of the prominence - it was really big! Note: The fringing grainy red aura especially on the left of the solar disc is an artifact caused by the high cloud cover. I was unable to remove it in post processing. Details: Camera: Panasonic Lumix DMC-G5. Telescope: 80mm F/6 Triplet ED Refractor. Solar Filter: Solarscope 50mm Single Etalon with 20mm blocking filter. Image: Single frame processed in Photoshop CS. False color added to solar disc. Color of Prominence is natural as the camera saw it. Seeing conditions: Marginal with high cloud cover.
