Details:
I was able to see the individual green columns over the highway while driving with my bright headlights on. At that point they appeared to reach very high into the sky. Normally at this latitude the aurora is very low on the horizon. Later a huge white Proton Arc reached East-West across the sky, appearing strongest where it hit our western horizon, slightly south of my location, so it probably passed over or near Seattle. While the proton arc was present there were numerous green and red columns and pulsing flashes of light among the columns. Taken with a Canon 5D MkII, Canon 17-35mm lens @17mm, 1st photo: 10 second exposure, F2.8, ISO 2000 2nd photo: 8 second exposure, F2.8, ISO 6400
