Details:
Just a day before the September Equinox, Jupiter and the Young Moon were observed setting towards clouds of smoke from dry season burning of vegetation (first picture). During the Spring Equinox in the Southern Hemisphere the Young Moon rides high above the sunset so there was enough time for the light to fade sufficiently for both to become clearly visible above the smoky horizon. The other pictures show the first appearance of the thin crescent at 18.06 LT, a closer view with some Earthshine at 18.11 and finally a mosaic in which the Young Moon at 18.07 follows a similar path to the earlier sunset behind Murahwa Mountain at 17.31. The camera used was a Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ60 in sunset and then night scenery modes.
