Image of a Orion's región including M-42, M-43, Flame Nebula and NGC 2024 at below from the center and a strange "bubble" emerging from Saiph (kappa-Orionis), the brighter star near de top border. Image obtained through a 180 mm photographic lens (piggybacked over a telescope)in a 1600 ISO photographic film. 35 min. exposure

Lens flare, likely - there is a larger example just above Alnitak (Zeta Orionis).

Sure: artefacts : there are 3 of them: the third one is a long curve at the right hand side.

The same happens in the top right section of the picture, but in the other direction...
This indicates reflections in the camera or imperfections of the used lens. No natural phenomena here.
