Details:
Colourful display of NLC had a strong leading (western) edge and plenty of structure behind it. Very colourful: red end of the spectrum near the horizon (marking Canada Day?), silvery blue above. Display stretched from west of due north to beyond Venus rising in the northeast, close to 90° in width and requiring more than one photograph at 17 mm to capture its full extent. The two primary pics were taken over 30 minutes apart.
A jet (photo)bombed my placid sky at one point, offering one more layer to the dark bands of relatively nearby clouds and the towering NLC beyond. It was interesting how by eye the extended contrail looked bright against the dark sky above, but dark against the NLC.
