Details:
During the evening of 31 May an occultation of Regulus by the First Quarter Moon was visible from Mutare. Regulus disappeared behind the Moon at 16.49.52 UT (18.49.52 LT) and reappeared at 18.09.38 UT (20.09.38 LT) as shown in the first two photographs and animation. In these the rotation of the Moon with respect to the horizontal as it descended across the sky has been preserved. In the second animation a faint outline of the whole Moon has been superimposed and its rotation has been removed to so that the trajectory of Regulus behind it can be more clearly deduced. The photographs were taken using a tripod-mounted Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ60 camera with manual exposure settings and x60 zoom magnification. The EXIF times for the still photographs are two minutes later than real time due to a discrepancy in the camera clock setting.
