Details:
Almost clear evening skies during the past week have enabled a time-lapse sequence of the Moon to be taken from when it was just one day old (on 26 May) to First Quarter (on 31 May). This is presented in the accompanying unusual animation in which rotation due to retreat of the Moon eastwards after sunset has been removed to accentuate the daily progressive increase in the surface area being illuminated. It also shows the changes in color of the background sky that result from the Moon being photographed higher up and further from the glow of sunset. The photographs were taken using a Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ60 camera in sunset scene mode and x60 zoom magnification.
