Details:
I saw “Steve” about 11:30 pm May 19 when I glanced out a window, even though some lights were still on in the house, so it must have been quite bright, and may have faded a bit by the time I ran through bush to get to a viewpoint. The vertical photos were 10 secs at iso 3200, 14mm f2.8 on a Nikon D7000 (apsc sensor). To my eye it was pale white with a hint of blue, oriented ESE, directly overhead to WNW, which these always have been when I have seen them here a few times in the past few decades. The motion towards the horizon was slow enough that the 10 sec exposures didn’t blur it much, but overhead (second photo) it was dramatic, with fine fingers almost at right angles to “Steve” moving very fast E to W, quite finely detailed at times. I would have needed perhaps 1/100 shutter speed to show detail, they moved the length of the Dipper in two seconds (top centre). The north side (green side) of the fingers moved faster than the south side, so that they appeared to be turning as they went over me. Shortly after the horizontal photo was taken (20 secs) “Steve” became very faint.
