Details:
After examining photographs of the Sun and the thin Crescent Supermoon setting behind a hill to the north of Christmas Pass it was noticed that they had both set at almost exactly the same point on the skyline! The first photograph, taken through a solar filter, shows the Sun with a sunspot setting behind and a tree with a characteristic silhouette at 17.15 LT. The second photograph taken in very low light at 18.18 LT shows that the Crescent Moon setting though another tree just a few meters to the right. In the third and fourth pictures, which show more distant views of that location, the tree which is silhouetted in the filtered close-up of the setting sun appears just to the right of the last direct rays from the setting Sun and just to the left of the point where the Crescent Moon eventually set in the second picture. Quite an extraordinary coincidence! The photographs were taken using two Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ60 compact cameras in sunset scenery and manual time exposure modes with up to x40 zoom magnification.
