Circumzenithal Arc (Kearney, Nebraska April 21, 2017 at 18:41 CDT)
Was out with granddaughter Hazel this afternoon, who was swinging on the swingset when the observant little booger noticed and pointed out a rainbow in the sky directly OVERHEAD. I don't think I've ever seen this before, (but then I don't often examine the sky directly over my head). My first thought was that it was a sun dog, but the arc was in the wrong orientation by 180 degrees. (The sun is out of the frame at the bottom of this photo, in the west). A little Googling revealed that this is called a Circumzenithal Arc. Not sure how common they really are, but I suppose we rarely see them, for lack of looking UP. Thanks Hazel! Very cool.
