Details:
Just before sunset there were some light showers from build-ups of afternoon cumulus. One of these is shown producing good examples of Virga (first three pictures). Ten minutes later the tapering cloud base started to break up and produced what looked like a funnel cloud. However there was no circular motion and it turned out to be an illusion caused by setting sunlight silhouetting a dense portion of static disintegrating cloud. This demonstrates that sometimes all is not what at first it appears to be. The photographs were taken over a 20 minute period using a Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ60 camera in intelligent auto and sunset scenery modes.
