Details:
Yesterday evening (30 December) I was taking some photographs of Venus shining brightly in a beautiful sunset twilight cloudscape (first photograph) when I noticed the still thin New Moon setting under the anvil of a distant cumulonimbus (second photograph). The animations show them moving down through gaps in the clouds. The photographs were taken using a Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ60 in night scenery mode.
