Details:
Iridescent cloud photos posted yesterday by Leo Caldas in Sao Paulo and Sergio Mazzi in Brasilia show that by coincidence meteorological conditions at these locations in South America must have been similar to those in Zimbabwe and favored the development of iridescent clouds. However here in Mutare the bright colors were not just confined to thin veils of high cloud illuminated by the Sun (third and fourth images) but were also displayed by one of three pileus clouds which developed above the anvil of a late afternoon thunderstorm (first and second pictures). What was unusual was to see iridescence developing at almost the same time in two very different types of cloud formation. The photographs were taken using a Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ60 camera in intelligent auto and sunset modes.
