Details:
Around the winer solstice, you can catch the Sun setting behind Kitt Peak National Observatory from a pullout on the Mount Lemmon Highway. These pictures were taken on December 17th, 2016. Several green and even blue flashes were produced by a very turbulent atmosphere as the Sun set behind the telescopes of Kitt Peak. Photos were taken with a Canon 60D and Tamron 150-600mm lens at 600mm.
