Details:
Yesterday, 09 December, thunderstorms with some rain returned to Mutare after almost a month of unseasonably dry weather. At about 10 am two distant lightning strikes, almost symmetrically to the left and right of Hospital Hill were recorded within 30 seconds of each other. The images are frame captures from a video taken with a tripod mounted Panasonic Lumix DMC TZ-60 camera. The first time-lapse animation, which loops every two seconds, was prepared from these. The second real-time animation, which runs at 25 frames per second, shows that the first strike was multiple and more energetic. Relatively dry thunderstorms preceding heavy rain are common in Zimbabwe and bolts such as this one, which strike when there is not much cloud immediately overhead, are particularly dangerous.
