Details:
A very clear sky after sunset (third photograph) enabled some good close-up pictures of Venus and the wide double star Alpha Librae a.k.a. Zubenelgenubi to be taken using just a tripod-mounted Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ60 compact camera with maximum x 60 zoom magnification and manual time exposures of 1 second at ISO 1600. This evening the binary consisting of alpha 2 (brighter and bluish) and alpha 1 (smaller and yellowish in the second photograph) was less than one degree above Venus. Thanks to Bruce McClure for drawing attention to the proximity of Zubenelgenubi to Venus in today's article at http://earthsky.org/tonight/see-saturn-after-sunset.
