Details:
Here are some images from Sept 2 of a southerly and isolated arc that appeared for some time and took on various forms, including a picket fence form for a while. While usually red, it also appeared green and with a white component as well at times. It was often featureless and slow moving, and is the type of isolated arc we often see, well to the south of the main display, perhaps overhead here from Alberta. These have been erroneously called "proton arcs" -- But they aren't caused by incoming protons as the auroras they form are very diffuse and usually not readily visible to the eye. But just what the source and cause of the isolated arcs are is a subject of debate and research.
